On mossy ground under mature stand of hemlock in mixed woods—did not see tamarack nearby but they are prevalent in the area. Cap 6 cm., chestnut color, sticky, slime not acidic. Pores pale yellow bruising pinkish, small, angular, not radially arranged. Tubes yellow, up to 5 mm, depressed at stem. Stem 4 cm. × 2 cm., yellow above ring, red brown below, no glandular dots, solid flesh. Flesh of cap (pale) and stem (bright) yellow bruising reddish when cut. Odd odor. Mild taste. KOH on cap black, on flesh gray, on pore surface brown. Ochre brown spore deposit.
