This is at least the third time I've found this large white Amanita growing under a particular set of Douglas firs on my parents property. I wasn't able to dry a specimen this year, but I will the next time I come across it. I'm not completely comfortable with my id since the books I've looked in suggest that species has less of rooting base than this does. Overall it was very poor collecting in southern Humboldt county this year. I believe the reason was an early cold snap which shutdown most of the mycorhizal species.
