While strolling through the woods I saw what seemed surely to be a bolete, only to find it had gills! Which led me to a tentative identification of Phylloporus rhodoxanthus. But the gill structure seems different from those pictured on the web. And the relationship between the gills and the stipe seems interesting. This has a very long stipe (at least 15 cm)and may be growing from the root of a madrone. At any rate it grows right next to the madrone. The pileus is 10.5 cm across.
