small, very young cluster of mushrooms in soil of mixed forest ST: ~20x2mm, cap-color, dry, smooth, whitish fuzz at base CAP: 12mm wide, convex, brownish golden, smooth, dry, margin curled under when young FLESH: whitish, ~2mm thick, firm, unchanging VEIL: is that an evanescent cortina? GILLS: adnate, pale yellow, 2-3mm deep, unbr, not straight SPORE: print white The key in Demystified suggests Cyptotrama chrysopeplum, but gives little description, just that it is small and yellow with mealy particles. Mine has no particles. And it doesn't mention if it clusters, presumably an important feature that would've been mentioned. A (very slightly) better possibility is Armillariella tabescens in the A. mellea group, but little is said about its size or color, just that it is clustered on the ground in the east, lacks a veil, and has whitish spores. Mine certainly seems to have a veil, and I was under the impression that the A. mellea group were substantial mushrooms. I suppose it could well be a Lyophyllum or Collybia, but the veil might rule them out, as well. Demystified doesn't describe any small Lyophyllum, and none of the Collybia he describes sounds close.
