These were growing on an embankment off a trail near mostly hardwoods. I've tried to push them into the genus Gastroboletus but they don't seem quite to fit and most of that genus seems confined to western montane habitats. Also they were mostly growing above ground. Should have saved them but a strong odor was developing and I didn't have a good way of drying them in a hurry. The caps were from 3.6-5.1cm across and the stems ranged from 5.5-8.0 cm high. The pore-like area was very small and there even may have been the start of a Hypomyces growth on some of them. Would be nice if someone could "genusize" them??
