Fruiting from an area where a branch had once been cut from a now dead oak (probably not native). It was unexpectedly spongy and moist. Total width was 15 cm. Arora was no help and I couldn't find anything online that looked similar, or if it did it was described as being tough and woody, not spongy. Help? 8/15/08 I've added a new photo showing the fungus engulfing the Poison oak twiglets. It's now 21cm across. 8/30/08: Images 19055, 19056, 19057, 19058. 24cm across. The margin has thinned and toughened. Brown spores are visible and plentiful on wood beneath pores. And the hairs for which it's named are now present on the upper surface, as seen in Image 19058. 9/15/08: Added images 21615, 261616, 261617. Upper surface is spongy to the touch but some of the shredded areas are woody. There appears to be new growth in the upper center. Pores feel moist and bruise brown.
