Original observation #11680 (Mushroom Observer)
Found on hill-slope in mostly conifer woods. Some cedars and alder around. Was looking for phaeolus schweinitzii - so that kind of area..Said polypore has no distinct odor. The surface has short brown hairs and feels rather velvety, and somewhat pliable not brittle. The specimen is 22cm wide and 9.5 high. All seemingly coming from the same base. The flesh is white and peels off suprisingly like a chanterelle ! Meaty and stringy.
