Few old Russulas can be positively identified once they reach this stage. This is the only old Russula I feel comfortable with my identification. It is one of the earliest fall mushrooms, often showing up a week or two before our first fall rains. If it gets too saturated, it becomes a mushhump quickly. This specimen still has a well-defined stipe and gills, with little bug damage. Oddly enough.
