Rather large Russula found under predominantly Douglas fir and Western hemlock (see needles and cone on cap). This specimen is rather old, the gills are nearly planar, striate rim, pale pinkish-white at rim, distinctly brown with fine fibrils near the center of the cap, which was also protected from recent torrential rains by a copious quantity of needles, twigs, cones, and duff, which was brushed off with my hand to get the true color of the cap. Stalk white, brittle, hefty, slightly bug-eaten at the base; gills bonding together at various locations from near the stipe to near the rim, mostly white but with pale flesh-tinted as well.
