The observation took place in October 2008, Delaware County, Oklahoma (Oklahoma Ozarks). The fruiting bodies were found at the base of an oak tree but not growing out of the trunk. The forest type was a mixed pine/oak western Ozark forest. They were relatively large and both branches formed a cup (see image with person for scale). They looked very "marine sponge like" and had small pores all over the surface. I would appreciate any assistance that can be given with ID.
