Found growing on Northern hillsides under Red Oak white Oak mixed hardwoods hickory. They seem to prefer northern hill sides and hill tops where the Greenbriers are thick. Young caps are viscid very slimy. then become dry.on some specimens stems bruise black over time 30 min to 1 hr KOH cap turns Bright red in less than 30 sec becoming more intense as tome goes on. Base of stem turns yellow in KOH. spore print olive brown. I declare this particular species Edible I have been eating them for several days now and NO ill effects although not the greatest in texture and somewhat slimy and bland i thought cooked several different ways fried is the best. I thought id try them in different ways, because there is a great abundance of them at the moment.
