This has come up with gusto in the hills of WV Found under every Oak forest. These pics not so good i was Trying to beat a thunder storm. And if any one ever been in the woods in a major thunder storm in West Virginia, its not a good thing. Big branches fall from trees. so these pic where taken in hast but there are more pics to follow.. This is very common under Red Oak White Oak and Hickory. They seem to group together forming masses. They have a very quick reaction in KOH turning blue green and then fading over 30 min to black, The spore print is brown. They are tough and have a bitter taste.. Im finding that they seem to be an indicator to Leccinum longicuripes. Whereever the Hydnellum are growing, in between there is this little bolete. s
