Displayed at September Oregon Mycological Society meeting, specimen from a new member who is still learning mushroom shapes and features. Stipe lacking. Cap surface: brown, ochre, vinaceous and reddish areas, with a covering a fine dark brown to reddish fibrils or hairs; 4 inches x 6 inches (10x15cm) across; cap context predominantly white with some staining from exposure to air or bruising from handling (could even be insect damage); pore surface olivaceous-brown staining black where bruised by handling. Found on northern Oregon Coast, likely north of Tillamook and Tillamook County. Black-staining pores have me stumped. Boletus smithii?
