This is a typical A. mellea-like mushroom, but was fruiting on live alder, and appeared to be associated with die-offs on alder in typical root-disease centers. Interestingly it has a mild taste, unlike the usual nasty taste of our common honey mushrooms. We plan to sequence this to confirm it, but I think by habitat alone this ID is likely to be correct. Macroscopically, however, it was not obviously different from a normal honey mushroom.
