This was growing by itself under live oak ( Quercus agrifolia) really distinctive fragrance. Nearby was a large troop of Hygrocybe virginea which has no fragrance, and the last photo shows the two species side by side. I can't distinguish them, which makes for a tough time identifying them if you are smell blind (My daughter's phrase).
