Bolete Bill introduced me to this species today. Below i have an interesting hyperlink that sheds some light on how it was first named. The picture on the web link does indeed look like X. seperans, but my sample did not. It appears to have the characteristics described in Bessette. Note the yellow band at the apex, and try and relate to what its saying about how seperans also sports this. The pores of the mushroom were that ochre color that i think lends to better flavoring. The stipe besides the upper yellow reticulation was buff white and curved at the base.
