Not sure what to call these although I believe they are some form of Amanita citrina that are common this time of year in NC. Conditions were fairly dry and these were about the only Amanita species I found in mixed hardwood/conifers at around 3800ft. they were all fairly small with caps up to ~ 4.0 cm across. The spores were weakly amyloid and basically round. The size ran from about 7.9 - 10.0 microns. This is larger than reported by Tulloss and Jenkins but in the range reported in Lincoff's Audubon Guide as well as on Mushroom Expert(?). Also, the spores seem to have weak cell walls as many were collapsing.
