Before I looked at the spores, I would have been much more confident calling these Lycoperdon echinatum or possibly Lycoperdon pulcherrinum. The spores were globose and about 4.0 microns. Can't say they are really minutely warted. The spores had only short pedicels. The gleba was more brown and cottony and the spores slightly reddish brown. Some of the capillitium on close inspection does seem to have some small round pores. The peridium was tough and the spines did not seem to want to slough off, although these seemed to be fairly young specimens. Except for the appearance, not much to back up the ID. Not many other choices that I can see??
