Three morels in approximately 1-year-old wood chip mulch in a sunny site. No trees in immediate vicinity, but Pseudotsuga menziesii, Arbutus menziesii, Acer macrophyllum, and Thuja plicata within 100 feet. The first two morels look like classic "black" morels to me, but the third matches Kuo's description of "Taxon J": laddered, vertically arranged pits with sunken horizontal cross-ribs. Updated observation with photos of the same morels, taken 8 days later, and they all have developed the "Taxon J" look.
