Commonly called the "snowbank false morel" these huge specimens were very fragile and past their prime. Cap is Much more orange brown in color than G. esculenta and also has a bright white stalk usually. G. esculenta has a deep purple cap and pinkish purple hues on the stalk. Both typically fruit in this canopy in spring- however G. gigas is later with its fruiting than G. esculenta.
