By far, the dominant and omnipresent Amanita sp. in the Pine Barrens in October. In young specimens, the volval remnants on the cap and bulb are of the purple-lavender color that turns brown in older specimens. The bulb is rather abrupt and enormous. There might be another taxon of A. citrina in this region that has a less robust-looking bulb and no volval remnants on the pileus, but I could be wrong.
