Original observation #95373 (Mushroom Observer)
These were growing on a pile of loose dirt by a trail in the woods. I collected these several years ago and had trouble putting a definitive name on them. Also, I didn't save them except for a weak spore print which I taped over. I was able recently to extract a few spores and they were amyloid. I measured about 12 of them and got ~ 8.8-10.9 X 6.4-7.5 microns. Q(ave.) = 1.39. That seems to put them in the range of Amanita smithiana rather than Amanita sivicloa, which is what they seem to look more like. The spores seem to have some kind if granular interior, which also indicates smitiana but that may be due to the unusual way I preserved them. Also, the manner of growth was rather unusual.
