Lasallia hispanica is a species with a very limited distribution, being only reported from the countries of the southwestern Mediterranean: Portugal, Spain and Italy, and can only be found at high elevations (this specimen was observed at about 1300 m). It differs from the more commom L. pustulata in having a somewhat shorter thallus, usually presents many black apothecia (L. pustulata usually does not have apothecia) and the black isidia is scarse at the margin being irregularly branched and not coraloid (L. pustulata has conspicuous coraloid isidia at the margin of thallus). According to CNALH "The Sonoran specimens of L. papulosa are strikingly similar to those of L. hispanica from the southwestern Mediterranean basin".
