Found in sandy soil in pitch pine/oak woods in the New Jersey Pinelands. Spore print is yellow. Spores are inamyloid and rod shaped with rounded ends (cylindrical). 20 spore average 9.7 x 3.0 microns, Qm = 3.25, which is smaller than stated for Xanthoconium stramineum in "North American Boletes" by Bessette, Roody and Bessette. Taste is mild and flesh unchanging when cut. Pores darken when scratched (see picture). Despite the smaller spore size, I cannot find a better ID based on the appearance/habitat. Suggestions?
