Reddish-black caps with black scales, convex to broadly conves. 14-22mm w x 4-10mm h. Lamellae 2-4mm w x 3-9mm long. Stipe at base 2-3mm diameter with a length of 35-40mm. Trama 1-2mm with a stipe apex diameter of 2-4mm. Old caps became reddish-brown. Young caps orbicular, and seemed to have very fine brown fibrils towards the margin, while the scales were black. Pileal margin was incurved to decurved, and entire. Pileal surface was dry, and upon further drying some radial splitting occured. The scales and fibrils are innate.Pileal flesh was pinkish, turning darker slowly. Could not detect any odor or taste. The gills were adnate, close to subdistant and narrow. The gill margin was smooth and the face was dull. A set of lamellulae was present and was about 1/3 the lenght of the lamellae. The stipe was centrally attached, terete, and tapered towards the base, and measured 2-4mm at its apex, 1-2mm in the middle and 2-3mm at the base. colored like the cap and covered in black innate scales. and could be bent in half without breaking. Found scattered on the ground among Hickory and ash trees. No spore print.
