Cap: at first yellowish, then yellow-brown and/or with reddish fibrils and scale-like cracks; in age brown to reddish-brown, partially areolate. Gills: white, thick; developing rusty-brown spots in age. Stipe: 4 inches long (10cm), with persistent annulus which turns brown in age; with white scales above annulus, and progressively darker and browner scales descending, nearly solid brown last 1.5 inches (3.5cm); 2 inches (5cm) thick, decreasing to a point at the base.
