Single fruit body growing on the ground near the base of a fir @ ~ 5000ft. Cap 9.0 cm across, upper stipe 4 cm and lower rooting stipe 8 cm. Could not get a spore print but spores appeared to be whitish and not amyloid. The few spores I checked were ~ 6-7 X 4.0-4.5 microns and smooth. It did have a rather unpleasant odor but could be due to partial decay as it did not appear to be fresh. With its turnip shaped body, it should be easy to ID, but ???. Edit 10-19-2013; Gymnopus fusipes looks like a possibility although apparently very rare in North America.
