On Ulmus along local artery (reservoir road), 4' to 12' above grade, cap an obtuse umbo with flared margin on bottom half, top surface white, pale tan, cracked, to 8-1/2" wide. Gills white, moderately spaced, crinkly at underside of umbo, not attached to stipe. Stipe with fine ridges at top gradually changing to rows of rough shingles below. Stipe very firmly attached to tree, hard to remove, wood-like in texture and strength.
