growing ~8ft. up a large tree, which was probably dead, but I'm not positive. Clasically xylariaceous, firm, carbonaceous consistency, but with liquid-filled, gelatinous chambers a few mm beneath the hard outer cortex, the likes of which I think can be present in certain species of Phylacia, but this was so much bigger and browner. Specimen saved, hopefully en route to SFSU soon.
