Toothed mushroom growing on the ground among Short-leaf Pine and Loblolly Pine on a dry slope. They seemed to envelope everything in their way so that pine needles and bits of bark and wood are incased in them. The body is stem-like but very thick, extending down and seems to have fine roots at the base. The caps are 1-8 inches across. Most were 2-4 inches across. There was about 20 in the group. The largest one, about 8 inches across was fixed to the base of a pine.
