Several tightly fused clusters fruiting in mulch bed at the side of a restaurant parking lot. The most striking feature is that these mushrooms are embedded in a copious white mycelial mat (see last photo) which adheres to the base when it is removed from the ground. Cap is dry, feels like fine quality leather, has an inrolled margin and measures 11 cm. in diameter. Gills are decurrent, white aging to an off-white yellowish hue. White spore print. Stem is stocky, dry, striate with a bulbous base, and measures 7.5 cm in length. Width is 2 cm. Flesh is solid and white. All parts of the mushroom are firm yet remarkably spongey.
