These three mushrooms had me a bit perplexed for awhile. Then I noticed a white-coated one in the same spot/habitat that was clearly in the process of being colonized by a Hypomyces. None of the three mushrooms seen here exhibit classic X. affine macro-traits. But I believe they are all examples of X. affine, at different stages of Hypomyces infection. The smallest one developed a thicker white mold covering after I brought it home.
