Verbatim Date: 2015-7-2
Locality:
United States, New Jersey, Chatsworth, Franklin Parker Preserve
39.8175 -74.5353
Occurrence Remarks:
> A single specimen growing in the middle of the blue-blazed trail in mixed woods (both pitch pine and scrub oaks were around) in the Speedwell section of FPP . > First I thought that I stumbled upon some weird amanita from sect. Lepidella, but the stipe was way too wooly-furfuraceous and lacking a bulb structure, the cap was scaly, and the gills had a slight pinkish hue to them. > The spore print looks black against a white background and pink-brown when held up against a light source. > The gill color started out as faintly pink, then gray, then dark pinkish-brown -- see the pix. > KOH on cap: orangish in the center and bright yellow close to margin. > Will post spore pix & measurements later.
