This observation represents a fresh specimen of that seen in OB # 208130, collected upon return to the site 2 days later. Hopefully a fresher specimen will make identification of this mysterious mushroom easier. Fruiting in grass under Oak. Minutely cracked cap that feels like suede. Pore surface bruises brown. Stem, which is decidedly off center, is fibrous and tough with a reddish-brown chevron-like pattern over all but the apex which is white. Significant tap root. Olive-brown spore print.
