These were found on a mountain ridge under mixed hardwoods. Some of the mushrooms were affixed by white mycelium to acorn caps. Maximum cap diameter 10 cm. The characteristic anise odor was present in green caps. All caps, regardless of age, retained a sweet fragrance. This in contrast to the smaller, odorless species shown in Observation #215532, which had a pure white spore print and a tough, tan, almost rootlike base.
