This specimen was big and bright orange enough to be seen from 20 feet through the brush. Fruiting on a large rotted, bark-less log of undetermined species. Primary tree associates: Oak and Hickory. Fruit body: 34 cm. X 22.5 cm. X 6 cm. deep at thickest point, spongy, moist. Weight: 5 lbs. Pores average 2/mm. Tube length 2 cm. Context 4 cm. deep. KOH initially red on all surfaces, then after 1-2 minutes changes were as follows: upper surface reddish-purple; context purplish-red/deep violet; tubes and pore surface burgundy-red. Although I have been unable to find any information on spore color, I was able to obtain enough of a spore print to call them white. Hoping to get more yet. I will voucher this specimen for the Missouri Mycological Society's herbarium and will update this ob. when DNA results are returned.
