There are 132 pages of unidentified polypores on MO; many are quite beautiful and distinctive, yet there seems to be little interest in identifying them. I realize that much study needs to be done re: polypores; and we all await publication of a thorough, up-to-date reference/field guide. It is so sad that no one seems very interested in this portion of the kingdom of fungi. So it is with the densely hairy specimen in this ob. I have seen this fungus many, many times and on almost every trail in this 2,114 acre park. We do already know that some polypores have medicinal (and economic) value. Who knows what great discovery awaits in those 132 pages of unidentified, under appreciated observations.
