In mixed woods. Oak, Hickory, Ash, Maple, and Hemlock. Caps 11/4"-21/4" wide, tuberculate-striate. Cuticle peels almost to the disc. Flesh white unchanging, and no reaction to KOH. Taste was oily but very hot after about 20 seconds; odor was rancid when specimen crushed. Stipe 1-21/4" x 3/8-1/2" @ apex, equal to tapered towards base, and hollow. R. subfoetens has flesh that turns bright golden yellow in KOH. R. laurocerasi taste is unpleasant and hot, and has an odor of bitter almonds, and the margin is sulcate. R. fragrantissima has an oily acrid taste. This specimen was burning the tip of my tongue, but wasn't as hot as other mushrooms that I tasted. No spores obtained.
