I'm always happy to find a fresh batch of these, especially when they're not even a block from my house! These were super fresh and growing on the usual freshly fallen tree branch, located in this small urban patch of flora (which I frequent regularly). Common name: Wood ear, Tree ear or Judas' ear. Very rubbery to the touch (not as fragile as a cup mushroom). The skin has this fantastic translucent quality, very elegant and a blast to photograph! Any objections out there regarding the edibility? If my identification is correct, then I've read these are common in Asia. I've posted before, but just to reiterate, these are known to fight against blood coagulation in the arteries (which is thought to explain why artery disease is so uncommon in Asia). Anyway, just a fun fact. Recipes anyone?
