Hydnellum aurantiacum (Batsch) P. Karst., Polyporaceae, Aphyllophorales. (Ð"иднеллÑм оÑанжевÑй). Cap: 4-10cm, almost flat or slightly convex with cavities and bumpy, sometimes with sharp radial scales, old one slightly depressed rarely up to shallow vase or wide cone-shaped, fine velvety and radial hairy, porous in the centre; often partially overlapped, clear concentric coloured, pinkish and orange-white outer rim; central part is red with thin orange rings or orange; bottom surface looks hairy cause spines; descending; colour light pinkish-brown and darker when bruising. Stalk: completely underground, 4-7cm long, cone-shaped as a root, uneven, stiff, orange and covered tiny roots with soil, inter grow decay wood or needles. It looks as a tree root. Habitat: rare kind, single or small group on the ground with pine needles in pine-tree forest with some birches. Edibility: stiff as a wood. Season: July-August.
