Original observation #251028 (Mushroom Observer)
Multiple patches in mature oak-dominated hardwood forest, south-facing ridge. Patches often adjacent to B. separans. Although often difficult to tell apart from one another, when young separans generally has lilac-tinged cap/stipe whereas nobilis has ochre/yellowish/brownish cap and pure white stipe. Each species seems to occur mainly with wrinkled to shallowly-pitted cap surface.
