Okay, I'm going out on a limb here. Don't know if it's even appropriate to try to identify an older specimen that is covered with mold/mildew. However, this one caught my eye because the moldy pattern on the cap has such an interesting pattern. I have tried to look for the basic features of this specimen wherever they can be seen/measured in spite of the mold. It is a solitary specimen initially appearing to be terrestrial but found to be fruiting from buried wood; mixed hardwoods surroundings. Cap: 8.5 cm., a beautiful shade of mahogany brown with a central depression, margin slightly inrolled; overlaid with an intricate pattern of what appears to be mold/mildew. Stipe: 3 cm. X 8 mm., essentially centered, stiff, brown, covered with short hairs best seen with 10X loupe magnification. Pore surface: almost entirely covered with the mold but visible enough to determine angular shape of pores, 3/mm. Did not try for chemical reaction or spore print due to the mold on all surfaces except stipe.
