A group of several fbs scattered under pitch pines. An attractive all-white mushroom with a solid and dense flesh. This is not H. sordidus, as that one grows with hardwoods (oaks) and prefers warmer weather. Another similar-looking wax-cap species encountered in the fall in the Barrens, H. subsordidus, has slightly shorter and narrower spores.
