A group of 6-12 scattered fruiting bodies (some in doublets or triplets) growing in a mossy patch a few yards away from a retention pond. The immediate trees are of non-mycorrhizal kind, such as sweet gums and maples. There is a single large (100 ft tall) pin oak about 15-20 yards away, which is probably the only host tree that makes sense, unless these mushrooms are saprobic.
