Growing in leaf litter on a ridge near red oak, white oak, beech, black cherry and sugar maple. Caps sticky and often covered in dirt. Stem dry and pruinose at the apex. Gills decurrent, waxy and yellowing in age. Odor indistinct to slightly fishy in age. No bruising reaction. No veil present in any stage of development. Fruiting bodies clustered to scattered. Some fruiting bodies joined at the base with 1 to 2 other fruiting bodies. Context white. Very abundant in a roughly 10 square foot area.
