Growing in mixed woods. mostly Doug fir and tanoak. Caps up to 6.5 cm across and very slimy. Stem also slimy. Spores ~ 12.5-15.2 X 7.1-9.0 microns, elongate and slightly to moderately verrucose. Taste and odor not distinctive. The spores are a little large for C. iodes but the original measurements of the holotype by Ravenel were "8.5-13.1(-16.1) X 5.9-8.8(-11.0)". Cortinarius cylindripes (sensu CA) is a better fit.
