Growing from a scarabeid grub (likely a Phyllophaga species) buried in wood duff and soil near Lindera benzoin, Ulmus sp. saplings, Platanus occidentalis, Acer negundo, Asarum canadense, Mertensia virginica, Ranunculus hispidus, Allium tricoccum and other herbaceous and woody plants. Ascocarp tough and wiry; 6.2 cm long and 0.3 cm wide at the widest.
