A solitary specimen fruiting on woody debris in oak-hickory woods. Cap: 8 cm., remnants of partial veil on margin. Stipe: 7.5 cm. X 1 cm., no ring found but ring zone is visible, enlarged at base and with white mycelium. Obtained purple-brown spore print. KOH on cap: brown. I have found this species a few times in residential woodchip mulch, but this is the first time I have found it in the woods. It Keys out to Stropharia hardii but looks slightly different than the ones I have seen in the neighborhood; thus my Confidence Level is not the highest.
