This was found in the fall almost three years ago. It was deep in the woods, mostly hardwoods, beech and poplars; approximately 100 feet from a creek. It was two feet across and growing from one main stipe/stem. I took 1/4 of it home and sliced it. It never stained black. It was thick and somewhat tough. A broth was made in order to sample it and it had a nice meaty flavor, similar to chicken.
