Oaks and cedar in the area. Growing in sandy soil. White Amanita that shows a blushing tendency. Amanita flavorubens in the same area. Initialy I thought this was Amanita rubescens var. alba but a discussion (with Leon Shernoff, Eric Smith and Kenneth Barbagallo) on the Amanitas of North America facebook group leads me to a Amanita canescens. The stained stem base on one sample seems too ornate and atypical of both species mentioned. The sample with heavy staining in the stem base was slightly buried, maybe environmental factors contributed to this?
